I once saw a movie where an individual found an Aladdin’s lamp. He rubbed the lamp and a genie popped out who promised to grant him any wish. Of course, the person wished for wealth and other great events to happen in his life. However, as he journeyed through life, he soon realized that some of the things he wished for got him into trouble. I suppose that would be true of most of us.
I thought about what I would wish for if I found an Aladdin’s lamp and were granted a wish. As my mind pondered that one day, I thought that I would like to go back and do many things in my life over again. I would like to correct some of my past mistakes, both financially and in my personal relationships. But then I stopped to realize that I would not have the knowledge, information or wisdom that I now possess had I not experienced the things I have gone through. Life is a great teacher and the only way we can really learn what we need to know is by experiencing the things that we go through each day. It is great to listen and learn from the mistakes of others, we just don’t do it.
In order for us to make a brand new end, we must learn to forgive others, and let go of things that have happened to us in the past. We cannot undo what has happened in the past. Perhaps those circumstances have brought us sorrow, tears and many sleepless nights. However, even the wealthiest man in the world cannot bring back a past event. It truly is gone.
However, even though there may be a note of despair to that statement, there is also good news. The past can be our friend to give us guidance to the future. We can actually learn from our past mistakes. We can grow and become better because of them.
People often go into depression when they get stuck in the past. Why would a person do that to themselves? Why would a person continually look backwards while trying to move forward? All of the days we are going to live are in the future. The ones that have happened in the past are gone. There is nothing we can do to undo any of our mistakes; however, there is plenty that we can do to learn from our mistakes. We can all learn to make a better future.
If we have hurt someone in the past we should try to make that right. If there is something that we have done that continues to haunt us and bother us, we should try to make amends whenever and wherever possible. However, the future is still in front of us. We must look forward in order to learn to do better and to make things more positive and successful in the future.
If you are ever given the opportunity to rub an Aladdin’s lamp and a genie appears to grant your wish, why not just ask for wisdom and guidance so that you can learn from the things that you have experienced in your past and so that your future can be better and brighter than ever? You know what is exciting? You don’t need a magic lamp or a genie to make that happen! It can become a reality when you focus on learning from the things that have happened to you in the past. You can grow from them and make a brand new end to your life.
We are all on a journey. Life is not an event that happens one day and is over. It is a journey that takes place day after day. If we will learn to accept the things that have happened to us, and gain understanding and guidance from them, we can look with a great deal of hope to the things that are unfolding in front of us. This is available to all of us who will learn from the past and look forward to the best life possible in the future.
Tip: I cannot make a brand new start but I can make a brand new end.
Have a great week! God bless you!
